A common condition that features a burning sensation in your chest and throat, Acid Reflux, happens when stomach acids flow back up into the food pipe or esophagus. Frequent episodes; however, may be an indicator of a more serious condition so it is important to talk to your doctor to see if you need a referral for our care.

When the acidic contents of your stomach flow up into your esophagus, a common condition known as Acid Reflux occurs.

Symptoms of acid reflux include:

  • Bloating.
  • Bloody or black stools or bloody vomiting.
  • Burping.
  • Hiccups that don’t let up.
  • Nausea.
  • Weight loss for no known reason.
  • Wheezing, dry cough, hoarseness, or chronic sore throat.

In some instances, untreated acid reflux can lead to complications over time extended periods of time. Call your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • difficulty swallowing or choking
  • trouble breathing
  • bloody or black, tarry stools
  • persistent abdominal pain
  • sudden and uncontrollable weight loss
  • signs of shock, including weakness, dizziness, and confusion
  • citrus fruits
  • chocolate
  • fatty and fried foods
  • caffeine
  • peppermint
  • carbonated beverages
  • tomato-based foods and sauces
